The
APA/LA Portfolio Review Program is an ongoing program
of portfolio reviews available to APA members.
What
can I expect from a review?
Portfolio development is an on-going process, and
an effective book isn't developed in one review
session, or without considerable time, effort, and
usually expense. The purpose of this review program
is to give the photographer a "next step,"
that is, to provide the photographer with at least
one idea to help improve the portfolio, and make
it more effective in marketing the photographer's
abilities. What that "next step" is will
depend entirely upon the photographer, and the stage
of development of the portfolio in relation to the
photographer's goals.
The
program is also intended to give the photographer
a chance to get follow-up reviews, and to have access
to different ideas from more than one reviewer.
However, the reviews aren't intended as a substitute
for an ongoing program of portfolio development
and hands-on work such as is possible with a capable
consultant or good portfolio development workshops,
for those who are able to afford them.
What's
involved?
The review consists of a meeting with a reviewer
of up to one half hour, and may be less depending
on the photographer's needs based on the judgement
of the reviewer.
What
is the cost and how do I sign up?
The cost is $55 per review, which must be paid in
advance to the APA office. Upon payment the member
will be given a voucher number and contact information
for the reviewer chosen by the member, if the reviewer
is available. The member will then contact the reviewer
and set up an appointment. There is no limit on
the number of reviews, and the member is free to
choose any reviewer on the list. However, all reviews
are subject to the schedules and availability of
the reviewers. Some or all reviewers may not be
available at any given time, and members will have
the option of being placed on a waiting list or
having their fee returned, if a reviewer is not
available.
